From Firmdale Hotels – the group owned by London power couple Tim and Kit Kemp – we have had The Soho Hotel, Covent Garden Hotel, Dorset Square Hotel and others in London, and The Crosby Street Hotel in New York. Their latest venture – Ham Yard Hotel – opens today in a peaceful and historic courtyard in Soho (which, interestingly, has been a bomb site since the Blitz). The hotel has 91 bedrooms and suites all decorated with the Kemps’ signature bold combination of colour and print. In addition, there’s a restaurant and bar, a Soholistic Spa and gym complete with hypoxic chamber for altitude training, a movie cinema and a bowling alley (an original 1950s imported from Texas). And 13 individual ‘specialist stores’ on site. As hotels go, this place has got style by the yard.
