Polpo is a bàcaro – what the Venetians class as a humble restaurant serving simple food and good wine. The first Polpo opened on Beak Street in 2009 in a building that was once home to the Venetian painter Canaletto. Polpo Covent Garden, Polpo Smithfield and Polpo Notting Hill followed thereafter and, this week, Polpo Chelsea opens in Duke of York Square for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At Polpo, it’s all about sharing. Order small plates of traditional Italian favourites like arancini risotto balls, fried stuffed olives, grilled octopus, crocchette, pizzette, breads, meatballs and more, followed by desserts like Aperol sorbet, Nutella pizzetta, chocolate salami and Affogate al caffé. Plates are small so one gets to sample lots of everything. Share and share alike.
